The Hindu deity Hanuman is an ardent devotee of Rama, a central character in the Indian epic Ramayana. A general among the vanaras, an ape-like race of forest-dwellers, Hanuman is an incarnation of the divine and a disciple of Lord Sri Rama in the struggle against the demon king Ravana.<br/><br/> This image of Hanuman, originating from Prasat Chen, Koh Ker, in the 10th century, is presumed to have been looted by persons unknown during the Second Indochina War, between 1968 and 1972. It was returned to Cambodia by Cleveland Museum of Art after evidence of the original pedestal for the statue was uncovered at Koh Ker in 2014.
